Underwater free-field explosive shock wave pressure sensors are made of volume-sensitive tourmaline crystals, suspended and encapsulated in an insulated silicone oil-filled vinyl tube with integrated microamplification circuitry. When an underwater explosion occurs, the resulting shock wave is applied to the sensor and the piezoelectric material or sensitive element inside the sensor converts this pressure change into an electrical signal output for subsequent data processing and analysis.
